Why guards quit, and what keeps them on post

An Assam guard built a Rs 50 lakh paratha brand after quitting. The exit interviews across MP say the same three things: wages, hours, and respect. Fix those and rosters hold.

Late September brought a feel good story with a sting. An Assam man left a security guard job, built a paratha brand, and now reportedly earns Rs 50 lakh a month. Cheers followed. So did quiet resignations at gates across MP.

Guards do not quit only for dreams. They quit for arithmetic that does not add up.

The three reasons on every exit call

Take home too low for 12 hours on foot. No weekly off because no reliever exists. Supervisor who never visits except to scold. Add cash salary with no slip, and the guard cannot even prove employment for a loan.

Salim, 26, on 12 hour nights in a Sagar warehouse belt, put it plainly to our supervisor. He liked the post and left it. His words were simple. Pay came late, off never came, nobody asked.

The statutory floor is not a suggestion

MP minimum wages reset in October 2026. Every quote must clear that floor plus ESI, PF, bonus, and leave encashment where applicable. A quote below that math is not cheaper. It is unpaid dues waiting for inspection.

Quote line What honest looks like What cheap hides
Gross per guard At or above MP minimum Below notification
ESI and PF Challan with names Cash, no challan
Reliever Funded, named Ghost name
Supervisor Named, visits logged No visits

Hours that humans can hold

Eight hour shifts protect attention and allow a second income or study. Twelve hour shifts pay more per month and suit distant posts, but need strict weekly off and overtime math. Thirty straight 12 hour days produce the sleepy gate that misses the 2 am round.

Supervision decides dignity. Weekly visits, signed books, festival greeting, quick replacement when a guard is sick. Respect is operational, not sentimental.

Questions buyers ask us

What is the minimum a guard should get in MP?

At or above the MP minimum wage notification for the period, plus ESI and PF as applicable. Ask for wage sheet and challans, not just gross quotes.

Is 12 hour duty legal?

12 hour posts exist with proper weekly off, rest, and overtime as per rules. A 12 hour post with no off and no overtime math is exploitation, not efficiency.

How do I keep good guards?

Bank salary on time, written hours, weekly off with reliever, supervisor who visits, and a raise path to senior guard. Five basics beat one speech.
